Position Summary:
Provide personal training instruction to members and participants, in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:
1. Knowledge of human anatomy and the concepts of functional exercise, basic nutrition and basic exercise science.
2. Ability to design individual and group exercise programs tailored to the needs and attainable goals of members.
3. Execute individual fitness program design in a safe and effective way.
4. A desire to help members reach their health and fitness goals through appropriate cardiovascular, flexibility and resistance exercise.
5. An ability to motivate others to improve their overall fitness and health.
6. Builds effective relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
7. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
8. Keeps accurate class attendance records.
9. Provide instruction to members on fitness and wellbeing.
10. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
11. Attend all staff meetings, trainings and other YMCA functions as required by Supervisor.
12. Maintain open lines of communication with staff, parents, and supervisor.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Experience working in the fitness industry; at least 1 year of experience working with participants on a one-on-one basis, preferred

2. Create a welcoming environment in all YMCA program areas taking time to talk to members and enthusiastically greet them by name with a smile and eye contact.

3. Conduct personal training appointments with members to help them develop and meet their fitness goals.

4. Design personalized programs for members that are customized to meet the unique needs of each member.

5. Motivate and encourage members to meet fitness goals; track member progress and modify fitness routines/plans as necessary.

6. Confirm member appointments and member follow-up as required.

7. Monitor fitness room to ensure equipment is functioning, put away and clean.

8. Member information is organized and participants stay engaged in the program
9. Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, and AED.
10. National certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification required.
11. Certification(s) in areas of expertise required.
12. YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire.
13. Five plus years of experience teaching group wellness classes required.
14. Degree in related field preferred.
15. Criminal Clearance, Health Exam with TB test.
16. Must attend a new employee orientation within the first 90 days of employment.

Working Conditions:
Environmental Factors: Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. childcare and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces. Noise level is usually moderate.
